You might want to check the total for Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan, which eclipses that figure in a couple of days.

Read it again. Irvine is the busiest station in the COUNTY (Orange County, CA), not the COUNTRY. New York Penn Station had 7.5 million Amtrak passengers a year, and many times that many LIRR passengers. Los Angeles Union Station has 1.4 million Amtrak passengers a year and many more Metrolink passengers. San Diego has about 870,000 Amtrak passengers a year, plus Coaster passengers. Of the hundreds of stations served by Amtrak, Irvine ranks 14th in number of Amtrak passengers. Pretty high, but not number one. If you included commuter passengers, Irvine would be much lower in rank. Merritt
