The defective person controlling it is, and that IMHO is where we should be looking to fix problems like this one. Did you read this bit in the article you posted? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last August the campus was shut down because of concerns that a gunman was on campus. The man, an escaped inmate accused of killing a sheriff's deputy and a security guard, was later captured at VirginiaTech. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- An escaped inmate on a killing spree. If that inmate had been put to death, he wouldn't have been able to escape and kill some more. Killers never escape from prison though. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ ____ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / __ )____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ / __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_____/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms

An interesting sociology survey demonstrated this as a marked contrast to the underlying cultural values of 2 countries viz USA and Australia. Australians feel decidedly unsafe with the notion that fellow citizens could legally buy and carry guns whilst American citizens feel safe with the notion of being able to carry a gun. This is a deep rooted historically driven cultural value and isn't going to change until hundreds perhaps thousands of more people die at the hand of mentally unhinged individuals. It's the same with moral values, USA has been deeply influenced by Puritan and Calvinistic ideas whereas Australia's influence has been standing together as the underdog against authority ie convicts versus the ruling British elite of the time so wowsers don't get anywhere. If a primeminister is a womaniser he is secretly admired not impeached.... Christians have a bad time down here along with the Muslims....

My bottom line take on it is that you could give every single person on the planet a firarm, and if everyone were mentally healthy, the only shootings would be accidental. This to me says we need to look at why more people are mentally unhealthy today than they were in the past. A couple reasons I can think of that there is less of a sense of community today, so people on the edge have less of a shoulder to lean on. I remember when I was a kid, my folks knew everybody on the block real well, they all helped each other out all the time, and knew what was going on in each other's lives. -- Remove YourHeadFromYourAss to Reply by email ________ ____ / ____/ /__ ____ ____ / __ )____ / / __/ / _ \/ __ \/ __ \/ __ / __ \ / /_/ / / __/ / / / / / / /_/ / /_/ / \____/_/\___/_/ /_/_/ /_/_____/\____/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Glennbo http://www.soundclick.com/glennbo Non-Linear Sound http://www.soundclick.com/jambits Hear My Music http://www.soundclick.com/ThePseudonyms
