Subject: City Council meeting, Thursday 22 February
From: Tim Ward
Date: 2/17/2007 8:11:53 PM
6pm, Guildhall
Full agenda should be on the council's web site, which is reporting itself
as being broken just right now.
Business includes:
(4) 2006/7 budget, and Labour's amendment
(6)(a) Labour motion on area committees and planning
(Personal opinion: of no interest to the public, it's largely an internal
procedures squabble. But if this sort of stuff turns you on take a look at
the government report that Labour's motion claims to be quoting ... and find
that it doesn't actually say these things!)
(6)(b) Labour motion on crossing commons
(Background: this relates to the recent report from consultants to the
county council about transport strategy for the East Cambridge development.
This one *is* likely to be of interest to the public.)
(6)(c) LibDem motion on sheltered housing
(Background: government propose further drastic cuts to local provision.
City council disagrees.)
(6)(d) LibDem motion on abolition of slave trade bicentenary
(Personal interpretation:Urging government to catch up with European best
practice on people trafficking.)
(6)(e) LibDem motion opposing government plans to close yet more post
offices
As ever, if you would like a ticket to sit in the chamber please ask your
favourite councillor (no prior arrangement needed to sit in the public
gallery). Food provided at half time. I won't say "join us in the Eagle
afterwards" this time because the chances of the business being finished by
11pm are approximately 0%.
