The road isn't opened a day early for cyclists, but cyclists can usually
ride the road without incident at that time. Many people do, and I haven't
heard about anyone being hassled by road crews. But it's not something you
can assume with absolute certainty will be allowed.

I rode through on Saturday (5/12), and I can confirm that Tioga Pass is open, but
on Saturday there were no services along the way. I didn't even see a trashbin.
The store at Tuolumne Meadows was still closed for the season; the rest room was
locked with a pile of snow in front of the door. I rode up from Hodgdon Meadows
and returned but was told at the east entrance kiosk that the Tioga Pass Resort was
still closed for the season, which meant there were no stores between Lee Vining
and Crane Flat. If you plan to ride through this coming weekend either confirm that
the store is open or bring salty food and be prepared to get water from the
abundant snowmelt near the road.
Snowdrifts are 3-5 feet high in the trees on north-facing slopes above 8000 feet
and over upper Dana Meadow near the Pass. Tuolumne Meadows are snow-free but still
brown and soggy, too early for mosquitos yet. The scenery is beautiful as always.
