There was this crazy group of folks called randonneurs. The SF 300K was Saturday. 100 signed up and I think 85 showed. Not sure how many finished. Results were just posted. The ride started at the SF side of the Golden Gate. Weather was warmer than forecasted. This was good. Accuweather and Weather Underground had light rain in the forecast for the afternoon. Manageable weather situation or so we thought. What I read into the post was what were these crazy people doing out in that mess. If you saw folks out there, you had to wonder what the heck they were doing on bikes. The ride went to Petaluma, Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. It crossed over on River Rd to Hwy 1 and down to Pt Reyes Petaluma Rd. Typical of the brevet route. You can go to www.sfrandonneurs.org or do a search for route details. Basically what you saw was the start of the misery as one person has now called it. It wasn't suppose to rain until 3 pm. It started at 10 am and kept up for while. It rained again at 4 pm and didn't stop. Winds were pretty strong and coming from the South so it was a headwind. Where it got back was dropping into Mill Valley. At that point, the winds picked up and just got worse. Weather Underground at a Mills Valley weather station recorded wind gusts above 40 mph. Coming down Camino Alto in the dark and the wind was a challenge. I could barely control the bike. The climb up to the Golden Gate was much worse. it was like a scene from the Weather Channel. It was amazing that I stayed up right on the bike going over the Golden Gate. First question asked when I checked in was if I had to walk the bike. I did have to walk around the towers. It was some of the nastiest conditions I have ever ridden in. The ride reports are being posted "joshualevy" <joshualevy@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:1172504747.882029.68710@8g2000cwh.googlegroups.com... > > Does anyone know if there was an organized ride going south on highway > 1 at Pt.
