Subject: Alpine/Alameda bike route signage

Heading down Alpine road, making the loop counter-clockwise onto Sand Hill,
it's tempting to take the bike path that goes underneath Foothill/Alameda to
avoid dealing with the cars. But that routing really favors only those going
either north on Alameda or east towards Stanford. Otherwise you have to wait
for the stop light (a long one) to cross Sand Hill, and then wait for
another stop light (another long one) to cross Alameda.
Should there be signage directing bikes appropriately, as in having the bike
sign with the arrow on it (on Alpine) say something like "Alameda North?"
and a forward-pointing arrow for Sand Hill?
There's a lot of signage out on the roads for cars that's reasonably clear,
but for bikes, that's usually not the case. It would be nice if signage for
bike routes told you where the route was taking you, in my humble opinion.
This is stuff that I don't normally give much thought to, because I'm
generally riding with the cars in their lane at intersections, but getting
my 14-year-old out on rides is giving me the opportunity to see things a bit
differently, as in, sure, I've done this a zillion times and know where I'm
going, but how about someone who hasn't? If he were out here on his own,
would it be easy to figure out?
Thanks-
