ABOUT THE LECTURE
The Marie Buttery Memorial Prize lecture is
awarded to the best student paper submitted by
a student from a California school. It is given
to honor the memory of the Chapter founder and
first president, Marie Buttery, who had a
life-long interest in Egypt and its
civilizations.
As President, Marie supported giving graduate
students the opportunity to present lectures on
their ongoing research, the basis for future
Egyptology.
To honor her memory the current Board of
Directors has created a prize to encourage
students to submit their work and deliver a
lecture on a topic they have been developing.
Ms. Elizabeth Minor is a graduate student in
the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the
University of California at Berkeley. Her
research paper on the use of Egyptian objects
and Egyptian style in a Kerman burial community
was chosen as the best submission this year.
