Driving directions will be given afterward. Nov. 8 - Wednesday - The planet Mercury passes across the face of the Sun. Telescopes will be set up at Houge Park, from 11 am until 4 pm. Please do not try to see this without specially designed filters! Nov.10 - Friday - Public observing session on the grounds at Houge Park, featuring show objects of the autumn sky. The moon is absent. Star party hours: 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Also on Nov.10: Nov.10 - Friday - Our beginning astronomy class meets. In the hall at Houge Park, 7:30 pm. Nov.11 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Get away from the city lights, to enjoy the night sky. Sunset 5:00 pm. A 54% moon rises at 10:53 pm, giving nearly 5 hours of full darkness. Nov.18 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Tonight's sunset is at 4:56 pm, and the tiny 2% moon rises at 5:51 am. Watch for it! Nov.24 - Friday - Public observing session on the grounds at Houge Park, featuring show objects of the autumn sky. The small 19% moon sets at 8:10 pm. Star party hours: 7:00 to 10:00 pm. Dec. 2 - Saturday - General Meeting. Our speaker is Shiloh Unruh, who will present an Egyptian eclipse. In the hall at Houge Park, 8:00 pm. Dec.15 - Friday - Public observing session on the grounds at Houge Park, featuring show objects of the autumn sky. The moon is absent. Star party hours: 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Also on Dec.15: Dec.15 - Friday - Our beginning astronomy class meets. In the hall at Houge Park, 7:30 pm. Dec.16 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Get away from the city lights, to enjoy the night sky. Sunset 4:52 pm. A 10% moon rises at 4:37 am, so it's a full night. Dec.23 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Tonight's sunset is at 4:55 pm, and the small 16% moon sets at 8:05 pm. That'll be pretty! DIRECTIONS Houge Park is in San Jose, near Campbell and Los Gatos. From Hwy.17, take the Camden Avenue exit. Go east 4/10 mile, and turn right at the light, onto Bascom Avenue. At the next light, turn left onto Woodard Road. At the first stop sign, turn right onto Twilight Drive. Go three blocks, cross Sunrise Drive, then turn left into the park. From Hwy.85, take the Bascom Avenue exit. Go north 0.2 miles, and turn right at the first traffic light, onto White Oaks Road. Run another 0.2 miles to the first stop sign, then turn left onto Twilight Drive. You will now be passing the park. Turn right at the first driveway, into the parking lot.
